Tesla has seen an uptick in adoption of its Model Y among state-owned enterprises in Shanghai, including purchases by Chengtou Xinggang Group and Lingang Investment Holding Group for corporate use, according to the Lingang investment promotion service center.
The move reflects Shanghai’s efforts to foster a business-friendly environment that treats domestic and foreign companies equally, as reported by CNEV Post.
The announcement marks a significant stride for Tesla China, especially considering past government scrutiny over vehicle security issues, which once limited access for Tesla owners to locations such as government parks and airports. Recent initiatives, such as Tesla’s local data center aimed at safeguarding Chinese user data, have helped alleviate these concerns, alongside CEO Elon Musk’s active engagement in the region.
Highlighting Tesla Giga Shanghai’s operational efficiency, the Lingang investment promotion service center commended the facility for its rapid project execution, known as “Tesla Speed” and “Shanghai Speed,” which underscores Shanghai’s favorable business environment.
Tesla’s Model Y, priced competitively under RMB 250,000 ($34,382) and boasting a range exceeding 400 kilometers (248 miles), meets the criteria for Jiangsu province’s NEV procurement catalog. The Model Y RWD, priced at $249,990 ($34,268) before options, positions itself as a versatile choice for corporate fleet operations.
