Tesla plans to expand its intelligent driver assistance system, known as Full Self-Driving (Supervised) in the United States, to China and Europe in 2025, subject to regulatory approval, according to Chinese media outlet Shanghai Observer.
While Tesla has not disclosed detailed plans for the Chinese market, the company introduced advanced smart driving functions earlier this year through software updates. The features were delivered without referring explicitly to the FSD brand name.
At the 2025 World AI Conference in Shanghai, Tesla displayed its electric vehicle lineup, driver assistance technology, humanoid robot, and V4 Supercharger. The company also recently performed strongly in a large-scale comparative test of smart driving systems by Chinese automotive media, highlighting its competitive position in the domestic market.
Tesla has adapted to Chinese regulatory restrictions by training its driving system with publicly available footage of local roads and signage. Meanwhile, its Shanghai Gigafactory continues to play a central role in production, manufacturing the Model 3 and Model Y for both domestic and export markets.
Shanghai is intensifying its support for autonomous driving technology. The city plans to deploy hundreds of ride-hailing vehicles to collect large volumes of driving data and is building a system to evaluate large-scale autonomous driving models. Authorities also issued new robotaxi test licenses to domestic players including Baidu, Pony.ai, and WeRide, indicating growing momentum for smart mobility solutions in one of the world’s largest EV markets.
