Tesla has expanded its owner referral program rewards by adding free premium connectivity, as the company ramps up incentives at the end of the quarter.
The automaker overhauled its owner referral program last year, shifting to a credit-based system where owners earn credits for referring new buyers. These credits can be redeemed for various rewards, including accessories, free Supercharging miles, or raffle entries.
Previously, new buyers using a referral code received 3 months of the Full Self-Driving (FSD) Capability package. Now, Tesla has updated its program to include a new perk for buyers: 1 year of premium connectivity.
While all Tesla vehicles come with internet connectivity, the premium connectivity package provides access to features that require more data. Priced at $10 per month, the year of free premium connectivity is valued at $120. While not a substantial incentive for vehicles priced above $40,000, it is seen as an investment by Tesla. By offering premium features for free initially, Tesla aims to encourage owners to continue using them beyond the first year.
This new incentive is part of Tesla’s efforts to boost sales at the end of the quarter. Other incentives include a warning of a price increase on April 1st, up to 10,000 free Supercharging miles, and more.
