Tesla has widened access to its Early Access Program (EAP), allowing a greater number of vehicle owners to test upcoming versions of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software ahead of broader public release.
The expansion marks a shift in Tesla’s approach to FSD development, with the automaker inviting more drivers to participate in supervised trials of pre-release software. Historically, access to the EAP was limited and considered a privilege among Tesla owners.

Tesla began enabling EAP access for additional users on Thursday evening, though it did not specify the selection criteria. Several prominent Tesla supporters and influencers were among the first to report gaining access. While the company has not confirmed eligibility details, early indications suggest that drivers who purchased the FSD package outright—rather than subscribing—may be prioritized.
In release notes accompanying the update, Tesla wrote: “Enroll to experience early features before they’re widely released. Provide your feedback and related vehicle data to help make the next release our best yet. Note, every driver is responsible for remaining alert and must be prepared to take action at any time.”

The move comes as Tesla prepares to launch a ride-hailing service using FSD in Austin later this year. The company recently began recruiting teleoperators, a sign that human oversight may play a role in the initial rollout of the autonomous platform.
The broader inclusion in the EAP is seen as a sign that Tesla has gained greater confidence in the capabilities of the FSD suite. In previous years, the automaker had been cautious about releasing early versions of the software to a wider user base.
