The move fueled speculation Tesla could not meet the estimated timeline for building the Cybertruck by 2022. Production was originally supposed to start earlier than this year, but reports of delays came to light in August 2021 as Tesla is focusing on Model Y production.

It should be noted that there is no official word from Tesla regarding the delay. CEO Elon Musk also did not comment on the changes. Tesla is known as a company that does not have a public relations department.

Previously, Cybertruck’s reservation page stated that customers could complete their orders as “production approaches 2022.” It’s possible that now that we’re in 2022, someone at Tesla feels the need to remove the reference.

Elon Musk previously indicated the pickup would only enter production at the end of 2022, with an increase in volume in 2023. It’s not surprising that that deadline is falling even further, especially given the intensity of the current global pandemic and the chip shortage facing the auto industry.
