Tesla Cybertruck Prototype Exhibits Impressive Rear-Wheel Steering in New Spy Video

In the race to quench the insatiable thirst for Cybertruck updates, a new video has surfaced, offering an enticing glimpse of Tesla’s long-awaited electric vehicle prototype in action. Shared by Joe Tegtmeyer, the footage showcases the Cybertruck navigating public roads with a flair for manoeuvrability, further fuelling anticipation for its impending production debut.

The captivating video captures the Cybertruck prototype making its way from a Supercharger station back to Tesla’s Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. Beyond the visual spectacle, what steals the spotlight is the truck’s remarkable rear-wheel-steering capabilities. Following a quick recharge, the Cybertruck confidently executes a sharp U-turn, revealing a surprisingly tight turning radius for a vehicle of its substantial dimensions.

Although rear-wheel steering is not a novel concept, having been championed by automotive giants Honda and Nissan in the past, it has experienced a resurgence in recent times. This technology has proven effective in enhancing the agility and manoeuvrability of larger vehicles such as cars and trucks.

The distinguishing feature of the Tesla Cybertruck’s rear-wheel steering system is its contra-rotating nature. The rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels, contributing to the vehicle’s impressive turning capabilities. One intriguing question that remains unanswered is whether the Cybertruck will possess the coveted “tank turn” capability, a feature that was initially promised by Rivian’s R1T before being omitted from the final production models. Tesla’s enigmatic CEO, Elon Musk, has, however, confirmed the Cybertruck’s ability to perform a unique diagonal driving akin to a crab’s lateral movement, reminiscent of the GMC Hummer’s distinctive “Crab Walk” mode.

After enduring a prolonged period of developmental challenges since its flashy debut in 2019, Tesla’s Cybertruck seems to be inching closer to the production line. Recent sightings of uncamouflaged Cybertrucks being transported from Texas to California have only heightened the anticipation. While the precise identity of the vehicle showcased in the newly surfaced video—a potential early prototype, a late-stage pre-production model, or even a release candidate—remains shrouded in mystery, signs are pointing towards a plausible launch before the culmination of 2023.

As Tesla aficionados and automotive enthusiasts alike eagerly await further revelations, this latest glimpse of the Cybertruck in action reaffirms its technological prowess and leaves us eagerly speculating about the potential revolution it might usher in within the realm of electric trucks.
