Tesla Cybertruck Gains Faster Charging with 800V Architecture and Upgraded V4 Superchargers

Tesla’s Cybertruck is beginning to capitalize on its 800V architecture with the introduction of upgraded 325 kW charging at select V4 Supercharger locations in the United States. According to Tesla Charging, 19 sites now offer these enhanced speeds, marking a significant improvement over the previous 250 kW peak available at V3 and earlier V4 Superchargers. The rollout is expected to expand further next year, alongside the deployment of new Supercharger hardware.

While the 325 kW peak is a step forward, early user experiences suggest Tesla’s Cybertruck still has room for optimization. The vehicle’s charging curve, influenced by the 4680 battery cells, results in a substantial drop in speed after the initial boost.

One user reported charging from 8% to 40% in just 10 minutes but noted that reaching 80% took an additional 25 minutes. This 35-minute total time is only slightly better than the performance at older 250 kW stations.

In contrast, other EVs equipped with 800V systems, such as Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 and Kia’s EV6, demonstrate faster 10-80% charging times—around 20 minutes—on 350 kW chargers.

Tesla plans to address these shortcomings with new V4 Supercharger cabinets, expected in early 2025, which aim to unlock the full 500 kW potential of V4 posts. These cabinets will also support up to 1.2 MW charging for the Tesla Semi, offering expanded capabilities across the company’s fleet.

For now, the upgraded 325 kW V4 Superchargers are operational at select locations nationwide, including sites in California, Oregon, Texas, and New Jersey. The full list of active stations includes:
