A Tesla Cybertruck prototype has been sighted once again during winter testing at the Southern Hemisphere Proving Grounds (SHPG) on New Zealand’s South Island, covered in a camouflage wrap reminiscent of recent sightings in California.
The recent photos, shared by Twitter user and Cybertruck enthusiast Greggertruck, capture the prototype driving through a light snowfall, indicating moderately cold weather conditions. Temperatures in the nearby town of Wanaka ranged from approximately 30 degrees Fahrenheit (-1 degree Celsius) to 48 degrees Fahrenheit (9 degrees Celsius).

However, it’s worth noting that earlier this year, Cybertruck prototypes also endured testing in colder climates in Alaska. Additionally, the first units were shipped to New Zealand in June, making the overall testing period encompass various weather conditions.
Last month, two Tesla pickup prototypes bearing the numbers “604” and “512” were spotted at the same winter proving grounds in New Zealand. While it was revealed that 604 represents the area code for Vancouver, Canada, and 512 is the area code for Austin, Texas, the purpose behind these numbers remains unknown.
In the latest set of photos, the camouflaged truck features the number “535.” This number does not correspond to any major populated area’s area code, leaving its meaning still a mystery. It is possible that these numbers serve as internal designations for different testing procedures rather than having any significance for the public.
Originally unveiled in 2019, the Tesla Cybertruck is nearing production readiness after experiencing some delays. The EV manufacturer, based in Austin, Texas, is currently producing release candidate (RC) units at its Texas Gigafactory. Initial customer-intent production is scheduled to commence later this year, with a production ramp-up expected to follow next year.
