Tesla’s Cybertruck has reportedly arrived in South Korea for certification, potentially making the country the first market outside North America to approve the all-electric pickup for sale.
According to a report from South Korean media outlet Bloter, the Cybertruck is currently undergoing evaluation by the Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute (KATRI).
An official from KATRI confirmed the vehicle’s arrival, stating, “The Tesla Cybertruck came to the Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute (KATRI) in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province for certification purposes.” The official also noted that Tesla directly sent the unit for certification: “KATRI receives various vehicles for certification, including vehicles imported directly by individuals or companies, but in the case of the Cybertruck, the seller (Tesla) is in the process of receiving certification directly.”
While Tesla has not provided a specific timeline for Cybertruck sales in South Korea, this certification process suggests that the company is positioning itself to expand beyond the U.S. and Mexico.
Rumors have circulated about an “international version” of the Cybertruck, potentially a smaller, more compact model better suited for the narrower streets of European and Asian cities. CEO Elon Musk has also hinted at strong demand for the vehicle in markets outside North America, further fueling speculation of a broader global launch.
