Elon Musk has hinted that Tesla may develop a version of the Cybertruck tailored for markets outside North America, signaling the automaker’s intent to tap into potential demand for the futuristic pickup truck in Europe and Asia.
The Cybertruck was first delivered to U.S. customers in November 2023, but despite international tours, Tesla has not officially launched the vehicle in other regions.
The primary concern has been the size of the Cybertruck and its compatibility with the narrower streets of Europe and Asia. In a December interview with TopGear, Tesla’s VP of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy, confirmed that the truck was unlikely to meet European regulations. “First, the pickup market in America is huge, and that’s different for you. And two: European regulations require a 3.2-millimeter rounding on protruding parts. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to make a 3.2-millimeter rounding on a 1.4-millimeter stainless steel sheet,” said Moravy.
These regulatory and design challenges have led to speculation that Tesla might develop an alternative version of the Cybertruck, possibly with smaller dimensions or a redesigned body. Musk acknowledged that the truck would need to be developed differently for international markets, suggesting that a scaled-down or modified version could be in the works.

As Tesla ramps up production at Gigafactory Texas, the Cybertruck has already made an impact in the U.S. Despite early production challenges, Tesla is significantly increasing output. While no official sales of the Cybertruck have been announced in Europe, reports indicate that the vehicle has been imported into Germany by private buyers.
As Tesla continues to explore its options, the possibility of a redesigned Cybertruck could open the door for broader market appeal in Europe and Asia.
