Tesla has started ramping production of non-Launch Series variants of its updated Model Y crossover, suggesting the automaker is addressing earlier constraints that impacted its first-quarter production and deliveries.
The rollout of the updated Model Y, which began with only the higher-priced Launch Series trim, was cited by Tesla in its Q1 2025 production and delivery report as a limiting factor for output in the quarter. The company reported 323,800 combined deliveries of the Model 3 and Model Y during the period.

Images taken at Tesla’s Giga Texas factory by longtime drone operator and observer Joe Tegtmeyer appear to show multiple Model Y units with standard “Dual Motor” badging rather than the distinctive “Launch Series” trim identifiers. This development indicates that Tesla is now producing the standard version of the new Model Y.

The Launch Series variant, priced at $59,990, includes a range of premium features such as a rear lift gate badge, vegan suede interior trim for black interiors, and bundled software upgrades including Full Self-Driving (Supervised) and Acceleration Boost. At the time of writing, Tesla’s U.S. order page still lists only the Launch Series as available for purchase.

According to Tegtmeyer’s observations, the non-Launch Series units currently being built also feature black interiors, consistent with the Launch Series. Tesla has not commented publicly on the transition to the non-Launch version, but the sightings have led to speculation that wider deliveries of the updated Model Y could begin soon.
As the production ramp continues at Giga Texas, analysts expect that Tesla could benefit from improved delivery volumes in the second quarter of 2025.
