The postings follow Tesla’s broader preparations to enter the Indian market. The company has registered a local entity, Tesla India Motor & Energy Pvt Ltd, and leased office space in late 2023. It has also finalized two showroom locations in New Delhi and Mumbai—aligning with the cities selected for Autopilot hiring.

A camouflaged Model Y was recently seen undergoing road testing in India, raising expectations that it may serve as the company’s initial offering in the country. Tesla also held a hiring day in March to recruit sales advisors for its upcoming showrooms.
Tesla’s renewed activity comes amid evolving discussions with the Indian government. While CEO Elon Musk previously cited high import duties as a barrier to market entry, India’s newly introduced EV policy offers reduced tariffs for automakers that commit to local production within three years. Tesla is widely expected to leverage this framework, although the company has yet to announce formal plans for domestic manufacturing.
