Tesla has named longtime executive Joe Ward to oversee its global sales operations, according to a report by Bloomberg, as the electric vehicle maker confronts falling demand, particularly in Europe.

Ward, previously Vice President for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, will now be responsible worldwide for sales, service and delivery. A company veteran, he joined Tesla in 2010 as a logistics intern in the United Kingdom and later moved to the Netherlands to lead sales administration before rising through the organisation.

The appointment comes after a series of leadership changes. Raj Jegannathan, who had overseen sales operations since mid-2025, announced his departure after 13 years with the company. Jegannathan, originally an engineering executive who led IT and AI infrastructure functions, had stepped into the role following the exit of Troy Jones, former vice president of North America sales.

The turnover is part of a broader wave of senior departures, including programme leaders associated with major vehicle lines and other longtime executives close to Chief Executive Elon Musk. Analysts say frequent changes at the top of sales operations reflect mounting pressure on Tesla’s core automotive business.

Ward assumes the global role as Tesla’s European performance weakens sharply. Sales in Germany fell about 48% in 2025, while early 2026 data show continued declines across major markets, including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and France. Industry observers attribute the downturn to intensified competition, an ageing product lineup with limited recent updates, and reputational factors linked to Musk’s public activities.

Tesla has not introduced major new models in Europe in recent years, relying largely on the Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y, both of which face growing competition from established automakers and new entrants.

The leadership change suggests Tesla is seeking a more coordinated global sales strategy as it navigates shifting demand patterns and prepares for future product launches. Ward’s long tenure in international markets may be seen as an advantage as the company attempts to stabilise performance outside North America.
