Tesla’s 2026 Model S and Model X refreshes now include a new front bumper camera, marking a notable step in the electric carmaker’s ongoing expansion of autonomous driving capabilities. The camera, positioned just above the grille, is designed to support Tesla’s Autopilot and the company’s “Actually Smart Summon” feature, confirming it serves more than just parking assistance functions.

The update aligns the S and X with the Cybertruck and Model Y, both of which already include this forward-facing sensor. This leaves the refreshed Model 3 as the only facelifted Tesla vehicle currently lacking the new camera, raising questions about potential retrofits or future upgrades.

Beyond the camera addition, the 2026 Model S also introduces enhancements in efficiency, ride comfort, and cabin noise reduction. Tesla attributes most of the efficiency gains to subtle aerodynamic improvements and redesigned wheels rather than powertrain upgrades. These changes contribute to the highest range ever recorded for a Tesla vehicle—an EPA-estimated 410 miles for the Model S Long Range.

However, that maximum range applies only with the standard Magnetite Wheels. Opting for the larger 21-inch Velarium Wheels reduces the range by about 30 miles and adds $4,500 to the cost. Combined with a base price increase of $5,000 over the previous model, the fully equipped Model S Long Range now commands a noticeably higher premium.

Tesla has not yet indicated whether the Model 3 refresh will receive similar camera upgrades, leaving the compact sedan without the front-facing enhancement for now.
