TEMICO, the Indian subsidiary of TECO, has announced a significant milestone with an order for electric vehicle (EV) powertrains totaling 55,000 units. This expansive order encompasses various vehicle types, including 5,000 powertrains designated for 9- and 12-meter electric bus models, with the remaining 50,000 powertrains destined for commercial vehicles. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in early 2025, with completion expected within three years.
Launched in Bangalore in November 2023 in collaboration with Mitsui, TEMICO is set to commence mass production next month following the receipt of ‘Bureau of Indian Standards’ (BIS) certification.
George Lien, Director of TEMICO, highlighted the company’s position as the second local EV powertrain manufacturer in India, anticipating benefits as the Indian government accelerates its bus electrification initiatives by 2030. Domestic manufacturers like Olectra Greentech, Ashok Leyland, and Tata Motors are also poised to capitalize on this shift.
“This large order for EV powertrains represents a significant achievement for TECO in the Indian market,” stated Morris Li, Chairman of TECO.
