Tata Motors is set to broaden its electric vehicle (EV) range in India, planning to offer at least seven models by the end of 2025. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, outlined the expansion strategy during the companyâs Q2 FY2025 earnings call.
Tata Motors will launch the Harrier.ev, an electric version of its diesel-powered Harrier, in early 2025. The SUV, positioned in the compact segment with a similar size to the Volkswagen ID.4, will use a modified D8 platform initially developed by Jaguar Land Rover. A formal debut of the production model is anticipated at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, scheduled for mid-January.
Following the Harrier.ev, Tata will release the Sierra.ev in late 2025. Targeting Indiaâs growing market for sub-compact SUVs, the Sierra.ev will compete alongside planned EV offerings from Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki, and Toyota. Tata will also offer an internal combustion engine (ICE) variant of the Sierra to maximize its return on investment. The SUV design, inspired by Tataâs original 1991 Sierra model, is expected to differentiate it in the competitive sub-compact segment.
Tata Motors currently holds a 65% market share in Indiaâs EV segment, with a five-model line-up that includes the Tiago.ev, Punch.ev, Tigor.ev, Nexon.ev, and Curvv.ev. The companyâs EVs start at 7.99 lakh Indian rupees, approximately 9,000 euros. Looking ahead, Tata aims to introduce a dedicated EV under its âAvinyaâ series by 2026, based on a new platform adapted from Jaguar Land Rover.
