Swiss Post has announced that it will now only deliver letters and parcels in the major cities of Zurich and Bern using electric vehicles. This marks a significant step for the company in its transition to sustainable logistics. The fleet of 568 electric vehicles, including scooters and delivery vans, will operate carbon-neutrally and will also reduce traffic noise. Swiss Post’s entire delivery fleet is expected to be powered by alternative drive systems, using electricity from renewable energy sources, by 2030.
As a transport-intensive company, Swiss Post’s largest sources of CO2 emissions are its vehicles and buildings. By converting to electric delivery in Zurich and Bern, Swiss Post is meeting the expectations of its customers and the Swiss population for environmentally friendly logistics. This move also demonstrates Swiss Post’s commitment to sustainability, which it considers a principle, not just a buzzword.

Thanks to this change, Swiss Post is delivering about 40 million parcels every year using electric vehicles. The cities of Zurich and Bern now have a total of 568 electric vehicles on the roads, including 374 electric scooters and 194 electrically powered delivery vehicles. The electricity for these vehicles is obtained fully from renewable power sources in Switzerland.
However, the transition to electric delivery poses challenges for Swiss Post, such as limited range and charging infrastructure. Despite these challenges, Swiss Post is determined to set an example with its commitment to electromobility. By the end of 2024, Swiss Post’s delivery vehicles will also be fully electric in the cities of Geneva and Basel and at around 50 other locations. By 2030, around 10,500 delivery vehicles throughout Switzerland are expected to be fitted with electric or other environmentally friendly drive technology, allowing for fully carbon-neutral delivery.
