Stellantis N.V. announced the resignation of Carlos Tavares as Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately, following differences in strategic alignment with the company’s Board of Directors.

“Stellantis’ success since its creation has been rooted in a perfect alignment between the reference shareholders, the Board, and the CEO. However, in recent weeks different views have emerged, which have resulted in the Board and the CEO coming to today’s decision,” said Henri de Castries, Senior Independent Director at Stellantis.

The Board has initiated the search for a permanent successor, aiming to appoint a new CEO by the first half of 2025. In the interim, a Special Committee will oversee the appointment process, while an Executive Committee led by Chairman John Elkann will manage operations.

“We extend our gratitude to Carlos for his years of dedicated service and his instrumental role in the creation of Stellantis, as well as his leadership in the turnarounds of PSA and Opel,” Elkann said. “Together with the Interim Executive Committee, we will ensure the continued deployment of the company’s strategy for the benefit of Stellantis and all its stakeholders.”

Tavares leaves after a tenure marked by Stellantis’ establishment as a global automotive leader, navigating the company through significant industry challenges and transformations.
