Stellantis and Toyota announced an expansion of their partnership for the production of large vans for the European market with electric powertrains scheduled for mid-2024

The big van that will be produced will most likely be the successor to the Ducato. Ducato itself is still based on the model launched in 2006, with updates in 2014. In 2020, there is also an electric drive version of the Ducato van called the e-Ducato with two battery sizes (47 or 79 kWh).

Details regarding the specifications and dimensions of the new Van are not yet known. What is clear is that the Van (including the Toyota version) will be produced at the Stellantis factories in Gliwice, Poland, and Atessa, Italy.

There has been no confirmation regarding the platform that will be used. However it is likely the vehicle will be based on the STLA Frame platform.

The van will be the first model for Toyota Motor Europe. Toyota has not yet offered a large van in Europe. The two companies have teamed up on the Toyota Proace (Electric) and Proace Verso (Electric) models, which use the platform from Stellantis.

“With this third successful engagement, Stellantis is further demonstrating its expertise in the commercial vehicle segment and in developing battery electric technology built to support a full range of needs,” says Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares.

From Toyota’s perspective, this collaboration will complete the brand portfolio in the electric commercial vehicle segment for their customers in Europe.

“We are delighted that we can expand this successful partnership through the introduction of a new large commercial van,” said Matt Harrison, President and CEO of Toyota Motor Europe.
