Solo AVT has just revealed the design and specifications of a new Class 8 electric truck with autonomous capabilities. The SD1 electric truck has a range of 500+ miles with an integrated electric motor that delivers a total power of 600 kW.

The truck is said to be able to carry a weight equivalent to the current Class 8 truck. The makers say that the sensor setup will allow for easy integration of any autonomous driver system and features a proprietary software control interface.

“We look forward to being the step change this massive industry needs as we develop innovative technologies to deliver a battery-electric long-haul Class 8 truck with over 500 miles of range,” said Graham Doorley, Founder and CEO, Solo Advanced Vehicle Technologies. .

Graham Doorley said the current autonomous system would not work on existing platforms or retrofit on a large scale. Solo AVT is said to have solved both of these challenges when developing, designing and engineering the SD1 to achieve a range of over 500 miles on an autonomous truck from day one.

In addition to announcing the Solo SD1, the company has also announced a $7 million seed funding.
