Solaris, an European manufacturer of electric buses, has secured another order from the Polish capital Warsaw. The public transport operator MZA Warszawa has placed an order for twelve Solaris Urbino 12 Electric buses, which are scheduled for delivery within a year.

This latest order adds to Solaris’s growing presence in Warsaw’s electric bus fleet. In December 2023, transport operator ZTM ordered twelve new electric articulated buses from Solaris, set to arrive in the Polish capital in 2024 and 2025. With this new order, Solaris has now delivered a total of 152 electric buses to Warsaw, making it one of the largest electric bus fleets in Europe.

In a press release, Solaris highlighted that each of the ordered buses will be equipped with an electric motor powered by advanced Solaris High Energy batteries. The buses can be charged both overnight in the depot by cable and along the route using pantograph fast chargers, providing flexibility and efficiency in operations.

Solaris recently unveiled a new version of its 12-metre city bus at the VDV Mobility Move electric bus conference. The revised Urbino 12 features a new drive design that eliminates the need for a motor tower, allowing for more seating in the interior. The battery system of the new Urbino 12 has an energy content of up to 600 kWh, an increase from the previous maximum of 520 kWh. This upgrade is expected to increase the range to over 600 kilometers.
