Smart Automobile, the joint venture between Geely and Mercedes-Benz, is expanding its presence in China’s booming electric vehicle (EV) market with the introduction of its second model since transitioning to electrification.
The highly anticipated Smart #3 was officially unveiled in China during a grand event held on Thursday evening, marking the beginning of its market availability. Deliveries of the vehicle are scheduled to commence this month, generating significant excitement among EV enthusiasts.
The Smart #3 offers consumers three distinct versions to choose from: the Pro+, Pulse, and Premium. These variants come with starting prices of RMB 209,900 ($29,586), RMB 239,900, and RMB 255,900, respectively, making them highly competitive within the EV market segment.
In addition to the three standard versions, Smart is introducing a limited-edition Brabus Performance version of the Smart #3, priced at RMB 289,900. However, this exclusive variant will be produced in limited quantities, with only 1,999 units available.
With dimensions measuring 4,400/4,542 mm in length, 1,844 mm in width, and 1,556 mm in height, along with a wheelbase of 2,785 mm, the Smart #3 stands out as a stylish and spacious coupe SUV. Notably, it surpasses the Smart #1, the first electrified model in the brand’s lineup, which measures 4,270 mm in length, 1,822 mm in width, 1,636 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,750 mm.
Under the hood, the Smart #3 offers two powertrain options. The single-motor version impresses with its peak motor power of 200 kW, while the dual-motor version delivers front and rear motor powers of 115 kW and 200 kW, respectively. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is a swift 5.4 seconds for the single-motor version, 4.3 seconds for the dual-motor variant, and a thrilling 3.6 seconds for the Brabus Performance edition.
Smart is also offering customers a range of options to suit their driving needs. The Smart #3 is available in three range versions, offering CLTC ranges of 520 km, 555 km, and 580 km. Equipped with a ternary lithium battery sourced from CALB and Sunwoda, the vehicle ensures reliable and efficient performance.
The Smart #1, the inaugural electric model from Smart, debuted in China on April 25, 2022, and deliveries began on September 24 of the same year. The design of the Smart #3 was spearheaded by Mercedes-Benz, with the engineering development led by the Smart R&D team. It is built on Geely’s innovative Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform, showcasing the successful collaboration between the two automotive giants.
