The all-electric smart #5 has been named Euro NCAP’s Best in Class for Safest Large SUV of 2025, following the organisation’s annual comparison of vehicle safety performance.
Euro NCAP said the smart #5 achieved a five-star rating in tests published in September and recorded the highest weighted overall score among large SUVs assessed in 2025. Best in Class awards are determined by combining results across four areas: adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, vulnerable road users and safety assist systems.

According to Euro NCAP data, the smart #5 scored 93% for child occupant protection, 92% for safety assist, 84% for vulnerable road users and 88% for adult occupant protection. The organisation said the model posted the highest results of any vehicle tested in 2025 in the child occupant and safety assist categories.
Euro NCAP noted that the vehicle’s performance reflects a combination of passive and active safety measures, including a reinforced body structure and a suite of driver assistance systems. The assessment also covered features intended to support child safety, such as multiple ISOFIX anchorage points and child presence detection technology.

The smart #5 underwent testing as part of Euro NCAP’s 2025 programme, which included crash tests and evaluations of collision avoidance and driver assistance performance. The model joins the smart #1 and smart #3 in achieving five-star Euro NCAP ratings.
The company said the smart #5 is scheduled to be introduced in additional markets outside Europe in 2026, following its initial rollout in 2025.
