Smart has sold out its limited Couture Edition of the upcoming Smart #2 across Europe within 14 days of opening pre-orders, signalling strong initial demand for the electric successor to the Fortwo. The 999-unit special edition went on sale on 13 October 2026, ahead of the model’s planned market launch in the second quarter of 2027.
The Smart #2 marks a return to the brand’s original focus on compact urban mobility after recent years of expansion into larger electric SUVs. Developed by the Geely-Mercedes-Benz joint venture, the new two-seater is designed to revive the concept of a small electric city car.

Smart said the response to the initial pre-order campaign confirmed customer interest in the model. Florian Nemitz, CEO of Smart Deutschland, highlighted the significance of the special edition’s early sell-out.
“The demand for the Couture Edition shows that the Smart #2 strikes an emotional chord. A special model selling out before it even hits the road only happens with a vehicle that truly excites people. For us in Germany, this is a strong start. This vote of confidence is a huge motivation for us, and we will carry this momentum forward to bring the Smart #2 to the roads as quickly as possible in 2027,” commented Florian Nemitz, CEO of Smart Deutschland.
Couture Edition Starts at €25,690
The Smart #2 Couture Edition starts at €25,690 and is based on the Premium equipment level. Standard features include a panoramic glass roof, Sennheiser audio system, heated seats and steering wheel, wireless smartphone charging and a navigation system.
The special edition also receives an exclusive silk-matt white exterior finish, a roof with gold accents and 16-inch Lyra alloy wheels featuring matching details.
Alongside the sold-out edition, Smart plans to offer the electric two-seater in Pure, Pure+ and Premium configurations. The standard range starts at €19,990, positioning the model in the competitive affordable electric car segment.

Compact Dimensions Designed for Urban Driving
The new model is built on Smart’s in-house developed Electric Compact Architecture (ECA). It measures 2.75 metres in length, 1.76 metres in width and 1.56 metres in height, with a wheelbase of 1.88 metres.
With a kerb weight of 1,140 kilograms and a maximum payload of 205 kilograms, the vehicle offers 305 litres of boot capacity behind its two seats. Its 6.95-metre turning circle is intended to make manoeuvring and parking easier in dense urban environments.
Power comes from a rear-mounted electric motor producing 60 kW (82 PS) and 130 Nm of torque. The drivetrain enables a maximum speed of 140 km/h.
CATL LFP Battery Offers Up to 290 km of Range
The Smart #2 uses a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery supplied by CATL, with a capacity of 35.7 kWh. Smart quotes a maximum WLTP driving range of up to 290 kilometres.
Charging specifications vary by equipment level. The entry-level Pure version supports AC charging at up to 7.4 kW, while higher trims offer an 11 kW AC charging capability.

All versions support DC fast charging at up to 65 kW. Under suitable conditions, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in less than 20 minutes.
With its compact dimensions, relatively accessible starting price and return to the two-seat city car format, the Smart #2 represents a significant shift back towards the urban mobility concept that originally established the brand. Its market performance from 2027 will show whether the model can translate the strong initial response into sustained demand.
