Skoda, a brand under the Volkswagen Group, has reported global vehicle sales of 209,600 for Q1 2023, a 12.6% increase from the previous year. However, the figure falls short of the company’s 2019 sales. On a positive note, Skoda’s all-electric car sales surged by 41% YoY in Q1, totaling 12,400 units and representing 5.9% of the total volume.
This is an increase from 4.7% in the previous year, with the Skoda Enyaq iV (including the Coupe version) being the brand’s only BEV. It was also the fourth most popular BEV in the wider Volkswagen Group during Q1 2023.
In 2022, Skoda sold around 53,700 all-electric vehicles, accounting for 7.3% of the total market and a 9.4% YoY increase. The company is likely to exceed this result in 2023, but it needs to expand its BEV lineup to achieve significant growth. Skoda intends to introduce three new all-electric models as early as 2026, with more to follow, in a bid to increase its BEV share of new car sales to 70% by 2030 and 100% after 2035.
Skoda’s move to increase its EV lineup could be its chance to stand out in Europe as an affordable brand, as Volkswagen, Skoda, and Cupra brands plan to launch several new entry-level, small BEVs based on the VW Group’s MEB Entry platform.
