SK On is set to showcase its expanded battery portfolio at InterBattery 2025 in Seoul, introducing a range of battery technologies, including its cylindrical cell, a prismatic cell with a top tab, and a pouch cell featuring a medium-nickel-content NCM cathode. The event, scheduled from March 5-7, will highlight the company’s advancements across multiple battery form factors as it aims to address evolving industry demands.
This marks a significant shift for SK On, which has traditionally focused on pouch cells with high-nickel chemistries. The company introduced its first prismatic cell at the previous year’s InterBattery event and subsequently commenced production.

Now, with the unveiling of its cylindrical cell, SK On is offering all three major battery formats for the first time. While details regarding the cylindrical cell’s exact specifications remain undisclosed, the company has completed a pilot facility and is accelerating research and development efforts.
In addition to the cylindrical cell, SK On is expanding its prismatic battery lineup with a new ‘top-tab cell,’ complementing the ‘side-tab cell’ introduced last year. The company is also set to showcase its Z-folding stacking technology and fast-charging solutions for prismatic cells, aimed at enhancing performance and efficiency.

On the chemistry front, SK On is addressing market trends by developing high-voltage medium-nickel batteries, which balance cost efficiency with performance and longevity. With a nickel content ranging between 50 and 70 percent in the NCM cathode material, the new mid-nickel cells are designed to offer higher energy density than lower-nickel alternatives while maintaining competitive pricing and thermal stability.
Additionally, SK On will present its next-generation wireless battery management system (BMS), which eliminates the need for wiring by utilizing wireless chips attached to battery tabs. The system transmits data wirelessly through module antennas, optimizing efficiency and reliability.
