SEA Electric Introduces Hydrogen Range-Extender Option for Large Commercial Electric Trucks

SEA Electric, a prominent global auto tech company, is expanding its offerings in the realm of large commercial electric trucks by introducing a hydrogen range-extender option to its systems.

The latest addition from SEA Electric is the SEA-Drive 250 model, which will be accompanied by an optional hydrogen range extender (RE) model. This variant will incorporate a robust power system integrated with a 45kW hydrogen fuel cell.

The SEA-Drive 250 has been specifically designed for vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating/gross combined vehicle weight rating of up to 80,000 lbs (36,250 kg), primarily in Class 8 rigid or day-cab configurations. This makes it an ideal solution for various applications, including garbage trucks. SEA Electric claims that this model covers approximately 95% of the market with its compatibility with different chassis combinations.

Tony Fairweather, Founder and CEO of SEA Electric, expressed his excitement, stating, “The SEA-Drive 250 RE marks a significant milestone for SEA Electric in our mission to electrify the global commercial transport fleet. The power system is perfectly suited for the demanding requirements of lighter duty refuse collection, as its platform has already demonstrated its capabilities in other deployments utilizing pure-battery powered configurations. This development means that noisy refuse trucks will become a thing of the past, a welcome change for residents in urban environments.”

Additionally, Fairweather highlighted that the combination of electric and hydrogen technologies allows SEA Electric to explore new areas and applications, such as day-cab and drayage tractor implementations, expanding their potential reach and impact.

Specific specifications for the SEA-Drive 250 have not been provided by SEA Electric yet. However, the company plans to unveil this model at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo taking place in Anaheim, California, in early May. Detailed specifications for their other four power systems can be found on their website.

In a separate development, SEA Electric recently entered into a five-year agreement with Mack Trucks. Under this partnership, SEA Electric will supply Mack Trucks with their renowned SEA-Drive power system, solidifying their position as a key player in the industry.
