Glasgow-based automaker Munro Vehicles has achieved a remarkable feat as their Series-M Utility, an all-electric 4×4, rolls off the production line a mere ten months after the unveiling of the prototype. The company has grand plans, aiming to increase annual production to 2,500 units by 2027.
The Series-M Utility offers two different powertrains: the M170, providing 170 kW, and the M280, delivering 280 kW. With a maximum range of approximately 200 miles or 322 kilometers, this electric 4×4 promises both power and practicality.
While Munro initially introduced the prototype, the Munro Mk_1, in December 2022, it presented versions with 220kW and 280kW powertrains. Additionally, the EV was said to be available with a choice of batteries, with capacities of either 61kWh or 82kWh.
Though the specific battery capacity for the pre-production model remains undisclosed, Munro emphasizes that it utilizes a “more durable, longer-lasting LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate)” battery, enabling the EV to charge at rates of up to 130 kW.
The company has heeded customer feedback and implemented “numerous improvements,” which include features such as an adjustable steering column with steering wheel controls and a range of ergonomic enhancements. Furthermore, the Series-M Utility now boasts a comprehensive suite of safety equipment, encompassing airbags, ABS brakes, stability control, and traction control, enhancing its appeal to a broader audience.
Russell Peterson, CEO and co-founder of Munro, expressed the significance of this milestone by stating, “Witnessing the first pre-production Munro Series-M Utility roll off the line is a momentous moment. Both for Munro and Scotland, as the Series-M Utility is the first light vehicle to enter mass production since the Linwood car factory closed in 1981.”
Munro Vehicles has ambitious production plans, intending to scale up from 50 vehicles over the next twelve months to 200 units per year, with a vision of reaching 2,500 units by 2027. Remarkably, the automaker has already received more than 250 pre-orders for both the Utility and Truck models, demonstrating the strong demand for their electric vehicles.
