Scania said its L-series low-entry cab has received a five-star safety rating, the highest possible score, under the Safer Trucks programme run by Euro NCAP, following independent consumer testing.

The vehicle assessed was an electric version of the L-cab configured for the utility segment, which includes refuse collectors and other essential service trucks operating primarily in urban environments. The rating highlights the cab’s strong performance in direct vision and both active and passive safety measures.

Designed for demanding city and vocational use, the L-cab features a low-entry layout aimed at improving driver visibility and reducing risks to vulnerable road users. Scania said the cab delivers particularly strong direct vision, especially when equipped with the City Door, which opens within a minimal space to improve accessibility and help reduce so-called “dooring” incidents.

“At Scania, we put safety and our customers first, and that our L-cab has been awarded five stars by Euro NCAP is proof that we turn our commitment into actions,” said Lars Gustafsson, head of trucks at Scania. “This recognition is a milestone in Scania’s long-term ambition to drive the shift towards a safe road without accidents,” he added.

In addition to its ergonomic design and ease of entry and exit, the L-cab is equipped with a range of active safety systems, including advanced emergency braking, lane departure warning with active steering support, and a side-turn emergency braking system designed to detect and respond to cyclists crossing the vehicle’s path. Passive safety features include driver and side curtain airbags, supported by a reinforced cab structure meeting Scania’s highest occupant safety standards.

The L-cab is fully integrated into Scania’s modular vehicle system, allowing drivers to benefit from familiar layouts and controls across different models. The company said the cab’s flexibility makes it suitable for a wide range of vocational applications, including tippers, concrete mixers and truck-mounted attenuators.

“Our customers expect Scania to be a trusted partner—delivering great comfort, a user-friendly experience and top-class safety in one complete solution,” Gustafsson said. “Now we have independent proof from Euro NCAP that our trucks deliver on that promise.”
