Scania, a leader in sustainable transport solutions, has unveiled Erinion, a company specializing in private and semi-public charging systems, aimed at supporting customers in their transition to electric vehicles. This strategic move will involve the installation of 40,000 new charging points at customer sites, bolstering the Swedish group’s e-Mobility offering.

Erinion will initially operate in Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, and Germany, with plans for a global rollout in the future. The company’s brand-agnostic approach ensures that businesses of all kinds, regardless of their vehicle brand, can benefit from Erinion’s charging infrastructure and operational services.

By 2030, an estimated 230,000 electric trucks and 11,000 e-buses are expected to be on European roads. To support this growth, Erinion aims to install at least 40,000 charging points at customer sites through 2030.

The establishment of Erinion underscores Scania’s commitment to sustainable transportation. Erinion’s solutions are designed to facilitate a seamless transition to zero-emission fleets, ensuring optimal uptime for customers. This initiative aligns with Scania’s goal of making 50 percent of its sales volume in Europe electric by 2030.

Depot charging is projected to be the primary energy source for short and long-range operations. This approach offers dedicated charging infrastructure at the customer’s depot or other designated locations, ensuring vehicles are fully recharged, enhancing uptime, and ultimately, maximizing operational efficiency and cost savings.

Erinion’s solutions also enable optimization of power levels and charging schedules, improving battery life and overall vehicle efficiency. Depot charging, often during off-peak hours, results in lower and more controlled electricity rates, while destination charging can occur opportunistically while the driver is resting or delivering goods.

Research by Scania, validated through pilot programs, suggests significant cost savings with advanced charging solutions. Customers can anticipate investment reductions of up to 50 percent and operational savings of up to 15,000 euros per year per truck.

Erinion offers integrated software and hardware solutions, along with operational and support services. These modular, purpose-built solutions are available as standard resale models or as hybrid-flexible pricing models, allowing customers to combine down payments, finance leases, and variable service and maintenance fees.

Jonas Hernlund, Head of Energy and Infrastructure at Scania Group, emphasizes the peace of mind customers will experience with Erinion’s solution, allowing them to focus on their core business while a specialized charging unit manages the necessary hardware, software, financing, and operational services.

Gustaf Sundell, Executive Vice President and Head of Ventures and New Business at Scania Group, views Erinion as a crucial player in the future transportation ecosystem. He believes that the new depot charging solutions company will play an important role for customers during the transition to electric transportation.
