Chinese commercial vehicle and heavy equipment manufacturer Sany has entered Vietnam’s electric heavy-duty truck market with the launch of its EV550 electric tractor truck, as the company expands its presence in Southeast Asia’s commercial vehicle sector.
Sany said it has already secured orders for more than 100 electric heavy-duty trucks in Vietnam following the market launch.
The company appointed Hung Thinh EV Truck, a subsidiary of Vietnamese conglomerate Hung Thinh, as the exclusive distributor for its electric tractor trucks in the country.
According to Sany, Vietnamese cement producer Long Son Cement placed an order for 100 electric heavy-duty trucks on the first day of the launch event.
The company did not specify whether the order consists entirely of EV550 models or includes multiple truck variants.
Sany delivered an initial batch of eight EV550 units immediately after the launch ceremony.
The manufacturer also said additional transportation and industrial companies signed purchase agreements for electric heavy-duty trucks following the launch, with individual orders ranging between 10 and 40 vehicles.
Globally, Sany offers the EV550 in two configurations known as the “composite” and “super” versions.
The company said the composite version supports a maximum combined weight of up to 75 tonnes, while the super version is designed for weights of up to 120 tonnes.
The composite version measures 7.35 metres in length and is equipped with a 270-kilowatt electric motor paired with a four-speed automated manual transmission.
Sany offers battery pack options of 282 kilowatt-hours, 350 kilowatt-hours and 423 kilowatt-hours for the model.
According to the company, the battery packs support battery-swapping in under five minutes and can also be fast-charged from 10% to 90% capacity within approximately one hour.
The super version is slightly longer due to a larger tandem rear-axle configuration but uses the same 270-kilowatt electric motor and supports 282-kWh and 350-kWh swappable battery packs.
