Volvo has released a teaser for their flagship electric car EX90. The manufacturer is slowly shedding some details about the EX90, and this time the teaser shows the exterior of the Volvo EX90 as well as its safety system.

Especially for the security system, the manufacturer even boasts that the Volvo EX90 is the safest electric car in the world. The Volvo boss also confirmed this claim by mentioning this car is ready for combat because it is protected by a safety shield.

It’s not without reason the manufacturer claims this, because this car is equipped with the best tested safety technologies and programs to understand human behavior through decades of safety research.

That’s where safety shields – in practical terms sensing technology, including cameras, radar systems, and LiDAR – come in. The system is powered by a new computing platform, and is designed to help cars react to any situation.

In total, the EX90 will feature eight cameras, five radars, 16 ultrasonic sensors, and one LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) system. The latter can detect pedestrians at a distance of up to 250 meters, and tires on black roads from a distance of 120 meters.

Volvo claims its research shows its software can sensor systems can reduce accidents resulting in serious injury or death by up to 20 percent.

It’s exciting to look forward to this car, Volvo has successfully revolutionized conventional safety systems in the average car and this goes far beyond the company’s already brilliant seat belts, airbags and driver assistance systems.
