The all-electric coupe from Rolls-Royce, known as the Spectre, is undergoing a rigorous testing process as part of a worldwide campaign. The vehicle has almost reached 2 million km of road testing and is still being put through its paces.
According to the prestigious automaker, this testing period is the most comprehensive in its 118-year history of designing and manufacturing automobiles. However, the company claims that they are far from finished.
The Spectre is currently undergoing intense heat tests in Augrabies and Franschhoek, South Africa. These two locations provide ideal summer weather conditions, with Augrabies being dry and scorching hot, while Franschhoek has a more Mediterranean-style climate, characterized by high humidity.

Engineers are collecting data on the Spectre’s performance to further improve its hardware and software. According to Rolls-Royce, the thorough testing is essential in order to meet the high expectations of its clientele and transfer its signature “Magic Carpet Ride” experience to its electric vehicle.
The company reports that the regenerative braking system has undergone over 1500 hours of testing, refinement, and feedback. Other areas of improvement include the anti-roll stabilization feature, color accuracy, interior brightness when the doors are opened, and suspension.
The final fine-tuning of the 17-speaker audio system will occur during the final 500,000 km of testing. Rolls-Royce plans to subject the car to 2.5 million km of testing before finalizing its development. The vehicle has already completed winter testing in Arjeplog, Sweden, where temperatures reached a low of -40 degrees Celsius.
