Rivian’s Warranty Update: Reduced Coverage for Dual Motor R1T and R1S Vehicles

In the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market, Rivian has emerged as a formidable player, offering some of the most intriguing electric vehicles to consumers. The R1T pickup truck and R1S SUV not only boast excellent off-road capabilities and supercar-rivaling performance but also come with a substantial warranty package, setting new standards in the industry.

Rivian’s Quad-Motor variants, known for their exceptional performance and versatility, come with a generous basic warranty lasting five years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. This places Rivian in the upper echelon of automakers, with only a select few, including Kia, Genesis, Mitsubishi, Hyundai, and Jaguar, offering a comparable basic warranty duration.

What truly sets Rivian apart from federal mandates is their eight-year or 175,000-mile battery and drivetrain warranty for the Quad-Motor models. While the federal government mandates an eight-year or 100,000-mile coverage, Rivian goes beyond the norm by providing 75 percent more mileage coverage, giving customers extra peace of mind.

However, for those seeking a more budget-friendly option without compromising on quality, Rivian’s Dual-Motor variants are also an attractive choice. While the basic warranty for these models lasts four years or 50,000 miles, aligning with other high-end manufacturers like Tesla, Polestar, BMW, and Mercedes, the drivetrain warranty maintains an impressive eight-year or 175,000-mile coverage. The battery warranty, though slightly reduced to eight years or 150,000 miles, remains competitive in the market.

Comparatively, Rivian’s warranty offerings stand out from some well-known competitors, such as the Ford F-150 Lightning, which offers a three-year or 36,000-mile basic warranty and a five-year or 60,000-mile powertrain warranty.
