Rivian is building anticipation as it gears up to unveil its much-anticipated R2 electric SUV in less than three weeks. The company has confirmed that the R2 will be more affordable and will make its way to Europe, offering a glimpse into the future of electric mobility.
The recent teaser video released by Rivian showcases the R2’s silhouette, which bears a striking resemblance to the R1S, indicating a smaller and more compact design. This aligns with a patent filed by Rivian last month, which revealed a compact electric SUV with slightly altered features such as smaller headlights and a redesigned rear quarter panel.

Rivian’s CEO, RJ Scaringe, has promised that the R2 will maintain the “essence of the brand” while being more compact and affordable. With an estimated price range of $40,000 to $50,000, the R2 is positioned to be nearly half the cost of Rivian’s existing models, the R1S and R1T.
Recent sightings of the R2 in downtown LA, captured by Daniel Aland Getting, provide a closer look at the upcoming SUV. Parked next to the R1S, the R2 appears slightly smaller with distinct design elements such as smaller headlights and a relocated charging port on the passenger side. Additionally, the R2 features fewer chrome accents and new wheel designs, adding to its unique aesthetic.

For European customers eagerly awaiting Rivian’s entry into the market, the company has confirmed that the R2 will be available in the UK and other European countries. The R2 teaser page on Rivian’s website lists several European countries, including Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands, suggesting a widespread European launch.
While pricing and delivery details for Europe are yet to be announced, Rivian has hinted at an imminent reveal. The official unveiling of the R2 is scheduled for March 7 at Rivian’s new Laguna showroom. Although production of the R2 is expected to begin at Rivian’s Georgia manufacturing facility in 2026, the company’s expansion into Europe marks an exciting new chapter for Rivian and the future of electric vehicles.
