Rivian has announced that it will include a North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapter with every new R1T and R1S purchase made in Canada and the United States. This move enhances the charging experience for new owners, as Rivian was one of the first automakers to agree to adopt Tesla’s NACS plug, enabling Rivian vehicle owners to access Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network.
Historically, Rivian vehicles have been equipped with a CCS1 charging port, requiring existing owners to use a separate adapter to charge at Supercharger stations. The company is currently working on integrating an NACS port into future electric vehicle models.

While some automakers, like General Motors, are charging their EV owners for NACS adapters—approximately C$310/US$225—Rivian has opted to provide them for free. The company has now expanded this offer to include a complimentary NACS adapter with all new R1T and R1S purchases. Customers can see the free NACS DC Adapter listed on the purchase summary page during checkout for any configuration of the R1T or R1S in both Canada and the US.
Rivian plans to include the free NACS adapter until sometime in 2025, when it anticipates beginning production of the R1T and R1S with a native NACS charging port.
