Rivian, the electric vehicle manufacturer based in Illinois, said on Thursday it will establish its East Coast headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, marking another step in the company’s broader investment in the state.

The new office will be located in the Junction Krog District on Auburn Avenue, adjacent to the Atlanta Beltline’s Eastside Trail. The facility is expected to open in late 2025 and employ approximately 500 people when fully operational.

“Atlanta is a natural fit for Rivian, home to a talented and diverse workforce, world-class schools and universities, innovative spirit, and importantly, a community we want to become a part of,” the company said in a statement announcing the new site.

The decision follows Rivian’s previously announced plans to build a $5 billion manufacturing plant in Stanton Springs, roughly 40 miles east of Atlanta near the town of Social Circle. The facility, if completed as planned, would be the largest industrial complex in Georgia and is designed to produce up to 400,000 electric vehicles per year.

In 2022, Rivian received a state and local incentive package valued at approximately $1.5 billion to support the manufacturing project. The timeline for fulfilling the investment and hiring targets was extended to 2030 amid local legal challenges and temporary delays.

Construction on the plant resumed after Rivian secured a $6.6 billion loan from the U.S. Department of Energy in 2024, which is intended to accelerate domestic EV manufacturing capacity.

The automaker, which went public in 2021, currently manufactures its R1 electric SUVs, pickup trucks, and delivery vans at its facility in Normal, Illinois. Rivian said it will release further details regarding employment opportunities and partnerships in Georgia closer to the opening of the Atlanta office.
