Rivian to Add Dash Cam Functionality to its Vehicle Camera System in upcoming OTA update

Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe has recently announced that the company plans to enhance its vehicle camera system by introducing dash cam functionality. This move is expected to provide drivers with a range of benefits and help them keep an eye on their vehicle while on the road.

Similar to Tesla’s Sentry Mode, Rivian’s Gear Guard is a well-received feature that adds another layer of security to EVs. Before such security features were available, drivers had to resort to using low-quality third-party solutions to monitor their vehicles. However, with the addition of dash cam functionality, Rivian will expand the scope of its Gear Guard system to allow owners to access the video while driving.

CEO RJ Scaringe revealed this upcoming camera upgrade on Twitter in response to a customer who had to purchase a third-party dash cam. Currently, Rivian’s Gear Guard monitors the vehicle while the owner is away, using cameras and sensors to trigger the alarm if necessary. The truck is smart enough to notify the owner via the Rivian app on their phone whenever the alarm is triggered. This update, however, will help the driver during driving.

Having a series of dash cameras can be incredibly useful while driving, especially for those who enjoy watching YouTube channels like Wham Bam Tesla Cam. Not only can footage provide evidence of what happened in case of an accident, but it has also proved to be an invaluable tool in criminal prosecution when required.

Rivian has not provided any further information about when this update will be made available or what other features it may contain. However, with more EVs entering the market every day, it is hoped that they will bring more valuable features like these with them. Tesla and its customers have proven that such features are in high demand and incredibly useful, and legacy automakers should take notice and implement them as well.
