The Pikes Peak Hill Climb in Colorado is known for its intense course, with a distance of 12.42 miles, 156 turns, and an elevation gain of 4,725 feet. It has seen many notable vehicles and drivers, such as Randy Probst’s modified Tesla Model S Plaid and Ken Block’s Mustang.
The latest addition to this list is Rivian’s R1T, which will make its debut in the hill climb race. The vehicle will be driven by Gardner Nichols, Rivian’s Senior Performance Test Engineer and racing enthusiast. The R1T will participate in the 101st running of the PIkes Peak International Hill Climb and will bear race number 21 in the Exhibition class.
The all-electric quad-motor Rivian R1T boasts over 800 horsepower, a 60 mph acceleration time of around 3 seconds, and an estimated range of 328 miles. The Race to the Clouds will be held on June 25, and is sponsored by Broadmoor and Gran Turismo.
Besides the Rivian R1T, other notable vehicles include a Tesla Model S Plaid driven by Randy Probst and a Nissan Leaf driven by Takashi Oi. The record at Pikes Peak is currently held by French racing driver Romain Dumas in a Volkswagen ID.R, who completed the 12.42-mile course in 7 minutes and 57.148 seconds in 2018.
