Electric vehicle maker Rivian is launching its own version of Tesla’s Sentry Mode, a security feature designed to record instances of vandalism and other events near a vehicle.

The new “Gear Guard Live Camera” will be available through a software update set to roll out today, offering Rivian R1T and R1S owners a similar security capability to that of Tesla’s system.

The Gear Guard Live Camera utilizes the vehicle’s exterior cameras to monitor the surroundings, allowing users to keep an eye on their car and nearby property remotely. According to Rivian, this was a “top-requested feature” from its customers.

“Customers will now be able to view their vehicle’s live camera feeds remotely in the Rivian app,” the company said. “This is helpful in the case of an alarm notification — you can review camera feeds in the app when the alarm is triggered — but it’s also useful when you’re parked at a busy train station for the day, or to see what’s going on in your driveway.”

The introduction of this feature provides added peace of mind for Rivian owners, much like Tesla’s Sentry Mode, which has grown in popularity among users seeking enhanced security.

By utilizing existing exterior cameras, the Gear Guard Live Camera offers a practical solution for real-time monitoring and protection.
