Rivian has commenced construction on its second electric vehicle (EV) production facility in Georgia, a $5 billion project expected to employ about 7,500 people and begin manufacturing by 2028.
The plant, spanning 2,000 acres across Walton and Morgan counties east of Atlanta, will produce up to 200,000 vehicles annually, including the R2 and R3 SUVs, as Rivian expands into the more affordable EV segment.

The facility will include approximately 20 million square feet of space, encompassing a test track, training center, and research and design building.
The project is supported by a $1.5 billion incentive package from the state of Georgia and follows a $6.6 billion federal loan secured earlier this year. Officials described it as one of the state’s largest economic development initiatives.

Rivian will host a community event on Sunday featuring food, live music, and vehicle test drives. A formal groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday with company executives and state and local officials in attendance.
The new Georgia facility reflects Rivian’s broader strategy to scale production and offer a wider range of electric vehicles in the U.S. market, following its first plant in Normal, Illinois.
