Electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Rivian has announced the initial recipients of grants from its Rivian Foundation, following plans first detailed in 2021. The company launched a dedicated website on Monday to highlight the foundation’s mission to support sustainability and conservation initiatives. In its first round of funding, the Rivian Foundation will distribute over $10 million across 41 projects, primarily based in the U.S.
The grants, which vary in size, range from $2 million to smaller amounts between $40,000 and $60,000. Projects receiving funding span different geographical scopes, including efforts focused on specific U.S. states, national projects, and even global initiatives.
Among the top grant recipients is The Nature Conservancy, awarded $2 million over two years to support wildlife conservation and cultural resource protection in California. Other high-value grantees include the Ocean Resilience Climate Alliance (ORCA), which received $1 million, and the Alliance for Tribal Clean Energy, granted $500,000.

Rivian’s philanthropic mission includes committing 1 percent of its equity at the time of its IPO to the foundation. As part of its broader sustainability efforts, the company also launched a renewable energy matching program, pledging to purchase 4.8 MWh of renewable energy certificates (RECs) for each vehicle sold by year’s end. Additionally, Rivian shared that its refreshed R1 Gen 2 EV models have achieved a 15 percent reduction in carbon footprint.
