Renault’s Scenic E-Tech has clinched the prestigious Car of the Year 2024 award, highlighting the growing dominance of electric vehicles in the automotive industry. The French SUV’s victory adds to Renault’s impressive track record with multiple wins in the past.

One of the standout features of the Scenic E-Tech is its claimed range of 625 km on the WLTP cycle, setting a high standard in the electric vehicle market. However, real-world driving conditions often result in lower ranges than those advertised.

The Scenic E-Tech faced tough competition from the likes of the stylish BMW 5-series with the BMW i5, which secured a close second place. This demonstrates that hybrid vehicles can still hold their own in a rapidly changing market. The Peugeot 3008 claimed third place, offering a blend of French style and a potent hybrid option. The Kia EV9 followed in fourth place, impressing with its bold design and spacious interior.

With a starting price below €40,000, the Scenic E-Tech could qualify for government subsidies in certain countries, making it an attractive choice for buyers. While its 160 kW electric motor is decent, rivals offer similar or better specifications. It’s important to note that while the claimed WLTP range is impressive, actual driving conditions may result in a lower range.

The Scenic E-Tech features a 77 kWh battery and stands out for its compact size of 4.47 meters, promising agility in urban environments. It also offers technology features such as a panoramic sunroof and the “OpenR Link” infotainment system with integrated Google services.

In a crowded market, competitors like the Kia EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 offer comparable specifications at similar or lower price points, with proven reliability. Additionally, the Tesla Model Y remains a dominant force in the segment, underscoring the Scenic E-Tech’s achievement in winning the Car of the Year award.
