The Radisson Hotel Group has recently embarked on an ambitious initiative called the ‘Green Mobility Mindset’ to enhance sustainability efforts within its establishments. As part of this eco-friendly endeavor, the hotel group has teamed up with Dutch charging infrastructure provider, PowerGo, to equip 300 European hotels with electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The collaboration aims to cater to the growing demand for EV charging facilities and promote sustainable travel options.
The initial phase of the partnership involves the installation of eight charging stations at the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel in Oslo. PowerGo anticipates completing this installation project by mid-July, allowing guests and visitors of the hotel to conveniently charge their electric vehicles on-site. The charging technology specifics have not been disclosed, but PowerGo assures that the selection of AC chargers, fast chargers, or a combination of both will be tailored to suit the individual needs of each hotel.
PowerGo, operating as a Charge Point Operator (CPO), will oversee the management and operation of the charging infrastructure using the EV platform provided by its partner, Spirii. Notably, this service will be provided to the Radisson hotels without any additional cost. By offering an advantageous financial model and prioritizing the utilization of clean and renewable energy, PowerGo aims to set itself apart from competitors in the market.
According to Inge Huijbrechts, Global SVP of Sustainability, Security, and Corporate Communications at Radisson Hotel Group, a significant percentage of their clientele has expressed a preference for sustainable travel options. Huijbrechts states, “Over 70% of clients indicate they want to choose sustainable travel options.” The collaboration with PowerGo is a strategic step towards meeting this demand, enabling Radisson to surpass its current tally of 700+ EV chargers installed in their hotels. The hotel group aims to equip all eligible hotels across Europe and beyond with EV charging facilities by 2025.
In addition to their partnership with PowerGo, Radisson Hotel Group has also joined forces with Allego, a charging solutions provider. Allego is set to provide and operate AC and DC charging solutions at more than 220 Radisson hotels throughout Europe. This collaboration extends beyond the continent, with Radisson commissioning over 510 charging stations at 141 locations in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India. In India, Radisson’s network of over 100 hotels will benefit from charging stations developed in cooperation with technology partner Sunfuel.
The PowerGo charging stations will become part of an extensive network that the CPO is currently rolling out, accessible through their mobile application. Together with Spirii, PowerGo plans to install approximately 15,000 charging points in at least seven designated countries within the next two years. This expansion will contribute significantly to the growing infrastructure supporting electric mobility and encourage sustainable travel practices in Europe and beyond.
