RAA Charge, the electric vehicle infrastructure division of Australia’s Royal Automobile Association, has completed its state-wide EV charging network, featuring more than 550 charging plugs across 144 locations in South Australia.
The initiative, supported by a AUD 12.35 million grant from the South Australian government, is described by RAA as a “border-to-border” network with charging hubs placed at intervals of less than 200 kilometres along major routes and regional centres. According to RAA, the network covers areas from Yalata to Mount Gambier.
The project aims to address range anxiety and support the uptake of low-emission vehicles by improving regional accessibility. The network combines AC fast chargers exceeding 7kW with DC rapid and ultra-rapid chargers offering up to 200kW of output. Among the hubs, the Snowtown location has received recognition from the Australian Electric Vehicle Association for its ‘destination charging’ setup, which includes high-powered charging, covered parking, and access to local amenities.
RAA Chief Executive Nick Reade said the milestone provides confidence for South Australians and visitors to travel further in EVs, adding that over 130 small businesses and 40 local councils participated as site hosts.
In a LinkedIn update, RAA stated that its charging infrastructure has supported more than 100,000 sessions over the past two years, delivering 2,801 megawatt-hours of electricity and enabling EVs to travel over 13 million kilometres using clean energy.
