POSCO Holdings Inc. and Honda Motor Co., Ltd. have announced their plan to collaborate towards achieving carbon neutrality. This partnership is aimed at leveraging the strengths of each company to explore future collaboration and accelerate initiatives towards carbon neutrality.

Under the agreement, the two companies will explore collaboration in key areas including automotive steel sheet, electric steel sheet, batteries, and recycling. One of the major areas of focus will be the adoption of ultra-high tensile steel sheet that contributes to further weight reduction in vehicles, and automotive steel sheet produced through a process that reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

The partnership also aims to establish a closed-loop recycling system that will utilize reclaimed battery materials, expand the use of recycled materials towards a low-carbon society, and cooperate in the procurement of key battery materials such as cathode and anode materials.

POSCO Chairman Choi Jeong-Woo expressed his pleasure at the expansion of their cooperative system into the field of battery materials, stating that POSCO Group’s “full value chain” for battery materials will be of great help to Honda’s strategy to expand its electric vehicle business. Meanwhile, Honda Global CEO Toshihiro Mibe believes that this partnership will help the company further accelerate its electrification strategies, given POSCO’s expertise in the areas of battery materials, recycling, and steel sheet and electric steel sheet.

As the world moves towards a sustainable future, collaborations like this are crucial in achieving carbon neutrality. The strengths of both companies in the automotive industry, coupled with their shared commitment to reducing carbon emissions, will undoubtedly pave the way towards a greener future.
