Porsche has set a new Guinness World Record with its Taycan electric model, achieving the longest continuous drift of an electric vehicle on ice. The record was set against the icy landscape of northern Finland.
The attempt took place at the Porsche Arctic Center in Levi, Finland, around 150 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. Jens Richter, an instructor, piloted the Taycan GTS, completing 132 laps in controlled oversteer on an ice track. He covered a total distance of 17.503 kilometers within 46 minutes, according to Porsche.

The record attempt required two tries due to challenging ice conditions. “Under the extreme continuous load of the drifting Taycan, the ice track deteriorated faster than expected,” said Richter. On the second attempt, the team adjusted by using shorter spikes and leveraging lower ice temperatures as night fell, ultimately succeeding in surpassing the previous record of 14.809 kilometers.
“With our new Guinness World Records title on ice, the Taycan has once again proven its sideways driving qualities,” Richter said. “And this time even with all-wheel drive. The fact that the Taycan GTS can be controlled so well even under extreme conditions speaks volumes for its excellent chassis and balanced performance.”

This marks the fourth Guinness World Record for the Taycan. In 2023, a Taycan Cross Turismo set a record for the highest altitude difference ever covered by an electric car along the Xinjiang-Tibet route, climbing 5,573 meters. In 2021, a Taycan reached 165.1 kph inside an exhibition hall in New Orleans, setting a record for the fastest speed driven in an enclosed space. In 2020, Dennis Retera drifted a Taycan for 42.171 kilometers at the Hockenheimring, completing 210 laps in 55 minutes.
Porsche continues to highlight the performance capabilities of its electric lineup, using record-breaking feats to showcase the Taycan’s engineering and handling under extreme conditions.
