Porsche is reportedly planning to discontinue production of the battery-electric Taycan by 2030 at the latest, following a sharp decline in demand for the model. The company is expected to keep the electric sports car in production at its Stuttgart headquarters rather than moving assembly to Leipzig, according to a report by WirtschaftsWoche citing company insiders.
The Taycan entered series production in 2019 and initially attracted strong demand, but deliveries have since fallen significantly. Porsche delivered nearly 41,000 Taycan vehicles in 2023, compared with around 16,000 last year, while first-half 2026 deliveries stood at just over 6,000 units.
Taycan Production Faces Lower Demand
According to WirtschaftsWoche, Porsche’s decision is linked to declining demand and significant underutilisation of Taycan production capacity in Stuttgart.
The newspaper reported that production has been repeatedly halted in recent months because of weak demand. Porsche had previously considered moving Taycan production to Leipzig, alongside discussions about potentially ending production earlier than planned.
The latest reported plan would keep the Taycan in production until 2029 or 2030, giving the model a production run of roughly a decade.
Porsche has reportedly reached an agreement with its works council to discontinue the model by 2030, although the agreement has not yet been formally documented.
Porsche Has Not Confirmed Discontinuation
Porsche has not officially confirmed that Taycan production will end by 2030.
In an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung in late July, Porsche CEO Michael Leiters said the company did not intend to discontinue the Taycan immediately and would continue to monitor market demand.
The company has also updated the Taycan for the 2027 model year, indicating that the model remains part of Porsche’s current product lineup.
One addition for the new model year is an optional virtual gearbox designed to simulate gear changes through noticeable jolts. The feature costs around €1,000.
Taycan Lineup Remains Unchanged
Porsche says the Taycan’s model range and pricing remain unchanged for the new model year.
The electric sports car continues to be offered as a sports saloon, Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo. The range comprises 18 variants with outputs between 300 and 760 kW.
Prices currently range from €102,600 to €241,100.
The reported production decision comes as Porsche continues to assess demand for its electric vehicles. For the Taycan, the sharp decline in deliveries and reduced factory utilisation have put pressure on the long-term outlook for the model, although Porsche has yet to officially confirm when production will end.
