Porsche has promoted Nico Müller to its factory Formula E team, where he will race alongside Pascal Wehrlein for the upcoming Season 12. The move comes following Antonio Felix da Costa’s switch to Jaguar and positions Müller at the heart of the German manufacturer’s renewed title challenge.

Müller joined Porsche as a factory driver in August 2024 but spent the previous season competing for customer outfit Andretti. His promotion to the works team had been widely anticipated after participating in a test with Porsche early last year. Despite a challenging campaign in Season 11, Porsche said it remains confident in Müller’s abilities as the team looks to build on its recent success.

“I’m incredibly proud of this step and thank Porsche Motorsport for their trust,” Müller said. “My last season wasn’t easy, but it was all the more instructive – that motivates me tremendously to repay the team’s trust on the track.”

The 32-year-old Swiss driver has already begun simulator work ahead of the São Paulo E-Prix on December 6, which opens the final season of Formula E’s Gen3 era. He is also contributing to the development of Porsche’s upcoming Gen4 car, expected to debut in Season 13 (2026).

Porsche Vice President of Motorsport Thomas Laudenbach said Müller’s familiarity with the Porsche 99X Electric, gained during his season with Andretti, made him well prepared for the step up. “Pascal is, of course, a well-known figure. Nico has been able to familiarise himself with the Porsche 99X Electric at Andretti during the previous season and is therefore well prepared when he gets into the factory car,” Laudenbach said.

After narrowly missing out on the drivers’ championship last season, Porsche aims to defend its teams’ and constructors’ titles while regaining the drivers’ crown. “Our goals for the upcoming season remain the same: We want to fight for all three titles at the finale in London next year,” Laudenbach added.
