Luxury carmaker Porsche is ramping up its commitment to sustainability by introducing seven new electric heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) at its Zuffenhausen, Weissach, and Leipzig sites. The move underscores Porsche’s dedication to reducing its carbon footprint and embracing alternative energy solutions.

The new electric trucks, sourced from Scania, another member of the Volkswagen Group, as well as two other manufacturers, are part of Porsche’s broader strategy to decarbonize its operations. These vehicles will join the existing fleet of 22 biogas-fueled HGVs, furthering the company’s efforts to incorporate eco-friendly transport solutions.

Albrecht Reimold, a member of Porsche’s Executive Board for Production and Logistics, highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating, “Decarbonization is an integral part of our sustainability strategy. The use of trucks with alternative drives and fuels is an important step toward achieving our ambitious goals.”

The electric trucks will be used for transporting production materials within Porsche plants, with one Designwerk vehicle specifically tasked with delivering new Porsche vehicles to Switzerland from the Zuffenhausen plant. This expansion of the electric fleet is part of Porsche’s commitment to utilizing a mix of drive types that are appropriate for their specific operational needs.

In addition to Porsche’s efforts, its logistics partners Keller Group, Müller—Die lila Logistik, and Elflein have also pledged to operate electric HGVs powered by green electricity. Galliker, a logistics company, is using a Designwerk truck to deliver new vehicles to the Swiss market from the Porsche factory, adding to its existing fleet of 52 battery-electric and six hydrogen trucks.

Since 2020, Porsche has been conducting a pilot scheme to test synthetic diesel fuels in its truck fleet, in collaboration with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Müller—Die lila Logistik. This four-year initiative demonstrates Porsche’s commitment to exploring innovative solutions to reduce its environmental impact.
